I think I found out about Circuit de la Sarthe from GT4 and thought it was a weird track. Then later I found out from oppo about LeMans and how cool it actually was. The history of the great racecars that drove there and why the GT & Forza games have these ridiculous racecars.
Although I didn't watch any of it this year, I look forward to next year and will clear my schedule for it.

I can't exactly pinpoint when I first heard about it but I certainly knew about it after reading (watching pictures from) Le Mans racing magazine when I was 6.
I started watching it couple years back when /Drive did their first 25h of the 24h of Le Mans stream. This year was the first one I watched the whole race.

i have yet to watch the whole race. I think next year I'll have it on and pay the $15 for the live stream.

I think I first read about it when I was six or seven in a car book. I didn't start following motorsports until late 2011, after Forza 4 came out and I had my first go in one of the LMP1 cars. I thought that was an awesome car, so I found the 2011 ALMS races on the ESPN3 app and watched the 2011 Petit Le Mans. Then I watched the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans probably a month out from the 2012 race. So, 2012 was my first 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I was surprised to find myself driving along the Mulsanne straight once. For 51 weeks of the year it's just the road to Mulsanne. Sadly it had an 80 kmh limit.

I live in Denmark(semi native), which explains a good deal of the following mania. Since John Nielsens win, LM became a household thing and TV started sending it. Then TK won in 1997 after the first wave of fever died out and bam, it was back. Then started the Audi era and Denmark has been the most represented LM nation at LM, at least by fans per total population.
When John Nielsen won LM 1990 in a Jaaaaaaag. Saw a replay and I remember I instantly felt bummed out that those idiotic chicanes had just ruined the entire point of the race. The 1988 reels and the 1989 reels they showed after the 1990 reels looked so much cooler (back then).
I saw 1991 in short version reels, because it was before you could see all 24 hours on TV available at the time, of cause with really bad commentary by national TV morons.
I believe I then missed 1992 and 1993, but I definitively saw 1995 and 1997 where TK won. Saw 99(BMW win iirc), not sure on 98. And then seen everyone since and with 2000, because Audi and TK.
Though from 2014 and onwards, now that TK is going to retire, I am a Toyota fan, cause I really want them to win LM. At least just once, like Peugeot.
